Aaditya Thackeray likely to get key role akin to senior leader

Mumbai: All eyes the state’s political circles are on Shiv Sena’s key meeting on Tuesday, where Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray, senior minister Eknath Shinde and MLC Anil Parab are likely to be elevated as the Sena leaders.

Currently, veterans like Manohar Joshi, Sudhir Joshi, Subhash Desai, Diwakar Raote are holding the posts of Sena leaders.

The meeting has been organised at the Worli Sports Complex to re-elect Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray at the same post. The re-election of the party chief is mandatory as per the election commission rules. Other major organisational changes are also expected in the meeting.

Sources from the Sena said that the Aditya's elevation is important as he will play a key role in the next Lok Sabha and Assembly polls. “He will lead the party along with Mr Thackeray,” sources said. Also, Mr Shinde is one of the senior leaders in the party and currently working as the Thane district chief.

Mr Parab is a close confidante of Mr Thackeray. He played a crucial role in the 2017 BMC elections. Sena MP Sanjay Raut did not comment on the political buzz.

“Tomorrow’s meeting is for the re-election of Uddhavji. There may be rumours or reports but let the meeting take place. Whatever the internal changes, they will be declared tomorrow,” Mr Raut said.

Another Sena MP Anil Desai said that as per the election commission rules, such meeting takes place everyfive years. When asked about elevation of the leaders, Mr Desai said, “The Sena chief takes these decisions so I cannot comment on it.”

A meeting of all senior party members was held at Matoshree on Monday. Mr Raut, Mr Desai, Mr Joshi, Gajanan

Kirtikar and others attended the meeting. Sources said that Mr Thackeray spoke to them about bringing a few changes in the party.

He also discussed the current political scenario in the country with them.
