Pune building collapse leaves eight injured

The injured eight are getting treatment at a local hospital, revealed police officers.

Mumbai: Eight people, including four children, got injured after a two-storey structure collapsed in Pune on Saturday afternoon. Around five people are reportedly injured.

The residential building was allegedly 30-year-old and was served a notice by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The incident happened in Keshavnagar area of Mundhwa in Pune.

“Eight persons were trapped, and all of them have been rescued. All are stable and escaped with minor injuries. The base of the structure caved in and the structure collapsed. The building was an old one,” said Anil P Pathrudkar, police inspector of Mundhwa police station. He further added, “Six cattle which were on the ground floor were also trapped under debris, but two of them died and rest were rescued.”

According to officials, the building which was near a nullah was already shaky and in a dangerous condition. Kailas Bhandwalkar, identified as the owner of the structure was among the injured persons. Reportedly, one family and two other tenants occupied the structure.  

“The control room received a call at around 12 pm, when we reached we saw that the ground plus one structure was completely collapsed. The locals had begun with the rescue before us,” said Prashant Ranpise, chief fire officer, Pune Fire Brigade.

He further said, “The firemen rescued a woman, and two children, a boy and a girl, after reaching the location.” The locals had rescued five trapped persons before the arrival of Fire Brigade.
