AIU recovers gold worth Rs 1crore in 8 seizures

Mumbai: The Mumbai Customs air intelligence unit (AIU) registered eight separate cases of smuggling and seized gold worth Rs 1.26 crore between  Thursday and Friday. Among those arrested are four Sudanese women, who were found to be travelling with gold concealed inside their undergarments, officials said.

On Friday, the AIU arrested a Sudanese woman, Rogai Allagabo Ali, who had come from Dubai to Mumbai. The officials found six gold bars weighing 699 grams worth Rs 19.53 lakh. On the same night, AIU intercepted Hindia Elzibair seized four gold bars worth Rs 14.76 lakh, which was hidden inside her rectum.

On Thursday night, AIU arrested Gardeji Khan, an Indian, who arrived from Riyadh and recovered four silver plated e-shaped gold pieces worth Rs 19.48 lakh inside two master circuit breakers in his baggage. The AIU intercepted Mohammad Danish, an Indian who arrived from Riyadh, and eight curved pieces of gold were found inside the stand of a gas stove in his baggage. They were worth Rs 13.02 lakh. On same night, the AIU intercepted a woman, Sagma Hasan Mohammad, holding Sudanese passport after she arrived from Dubai. Six gold bars worth Rs 19.53 lakh was seized from her. On July 19, the AIU officers seized four gold bars and one cut piece of crude gold worth Rs 13.83 lakh from Mastora Abdalla Abdelrehman, a woman holding Sudanese passport after she arrived from Dubai. They have been charged for smuggling without permission into India in contradiction to the Customs Act.

The AIU intercepted another  woman, Samia Babiker Aibabi and seized four gold bars weighing 466 grams.

In the last seizure that night, the AIU intercepted Fatima Abdalla who was found with four gold bars worth Rs 12.95 lakh that were concealed in her rectum.
