Mumbai: The Amboli police in Andheri on Wednesday arrested a teacher of Brilliant Academy, Ambernath in connection with the SSC paper leaks. The police arrested Rohit Pal Singh, for allegedly leaking the SSC’s History & Political Science (Paper I) question paper. This is the fourth arrest in the ongoing question paper leak probe.

A total of five SSC question papers were leaked, namely History & Political Science (Paper I), Algebra, Geometry, Science I and Science II. “He leaked the papers at MVM High School, Andheri and Kids’ Paradise School, Mumbra,” said Daya Nayak, assistant police inspector at Amboli police station.

The cops are investigating the History and Political Science question paper leak that occurred on Monday. Singh, who has done his M.Sc and B.Ed teaches at Brilliant Academy allegedly, played a key role in circulating the leaked SSC papers among 100 students across the city.

According to police, Singh, allegedly got copies of the question paper on his phone via whatsapp which were sent by main accused Firoz Khan, who is already in police custody. Singh leaked the question papers to the students. The investigators said that there was lapse on the part of the school as well and action would be taken against those found guilty.

Mr Nayak said that Singh has been booked under the Maharashtra Prevention of Malpractices at University, Board and other specified Examination Act of 1982 (MPMUBE) and section 66(D) of the Information and Technology Act. Singh was produced in the Andheri court on Wednesday and sent to five-day police custody.

Singh’s lawyer argued that his client has no role in the paper leaks. He further argued that the no sections of MPMBUE Act are attributed to him. However, magistrate I.R. Shaikh sent Singh to five-day police custody.

The Amboli police has arrested Firoz Khan, who runs Brilliant Classes, office boy Imran Shaikh, and IT student Amwarun Hasan (21). Police said that two other accused Vinita Khatwani, who runs the coaching class in Ulhasnagar and Mona alias Mona Bhabhi a coaching tutor is still absconding.

The paper leak came to light after an invigilator at MVM High School, Andheri (west) saw three students in front of the classroom checking their mobiles and textbooks before the SSC examination. She informed her seniors at the examination centre, who in turn called the cops. The police swung into action and checked the mobiles of the accused students and arrested Hasan, who had distributed the question papers to students from Grant Road, Sion and Badlapur.
