Mumbai: The second list for the first year junior college (FYJC) came out on Thursday and as was expected, it saw a dip of three to four marks. Furthermore, in a shocking revelation, The Asian Age got to know that students who did not take admissions even after their name being listed in the first merit list, would be removed from the second list as well as the third and fourth merit lists.

“More than 10,000 students are such who did not take admissions even after their name being listed in their preferred college. Our data simply showed ‘not reported’ for these 10,000 students. Their names will be automatically removed from the admission procedure,” said B.B. Chavan, deputy director of education, Mumbai region. All these students are 95 plus which is the reason their name showed up in the first list itself and now they will end up getting admissions in tier-2 and 3 colleges.

The first list for the FYJC came out on July 7. The students in the first list were supposed to take their admission on July 8, 9 and 11.

Asked why these students failed to take admission even after getting the admission, Mr Chavan said, “We too were very curious to know what went wrong that students did not turn up for admission. Hence we introduced a window for two days at our web portal and asked the students their feedback.” He continued, “60 per cent said ‘I am not happy with the college’ while the remaining 40 per cent said ‘I have changed my mind in regards the stream’. All these after they by themselves chose their colleges and streams.”

After completing all the four lists, the department will have an additional round where the students who failed to get admissions anywhere will be allotted. In this same round the 10,000 students who failed to take admission in the first round will be posted along with others.

From the academic year 2017-18, the state education department introduced a section called ‘Preference list’ in its FYJC admission procedure. In this list, students get an option of selecting their top 10 preferred colleges of choice. According to this list and the marks of the student, the web portal of FYJC admission will scrutinise and allot a college for the student. Until last year, department gave admission on the basis of percentage.
