Mumbai: The Public Works Department of the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation has been caught on the wrong foot yet again. This time after signages depicting street names in Gujarati language were spotted in Bhayandar (west).

In accordance to a resolution passed in the general body, the civic adm-inistration named a ju-nction — Shrimad Budd-hisagar Suri Chowk loc-ated in the Narayan Nag-ar area of Bhayandar. However, in sharp contrast to the prescribed guidelines the name was inscribed in Gujarati language, instead of Marathi. Taking a serious note of the issue, activists of the Yuva Pratisthan  have registered a complaint with the municipal commissioner seeking immediate action against those who are responsible for omitting the mandatory use of the regional language.

“It is mandatory to use Marathi as the official language in the day-to-day affairs by the civic administration. Such gr-oss violation of rules wi-ll not be tolerated,” said a Yuva Pratisthan leader.
