Bombay HC raps Maharashtra for casual Kamala Mills fire probe

Mumbai: The Bombay high court has pulled up the state government on the fire that broke out at Kamala Mills Compound in December 2017, observing that the state is not serious about the probe into the mishap. 

The state government on Monday submitted terms of reference of a committee but the court was dissatisfied as they had not been cleared. The court directed the state to file a fresh affidavit.

Chief government pleader Poornima Kantharia, on Monday submitted terms of reference of the inquiry committee. According to the same, the committee will have to investigate the genesis of the fire incident; violations at the level of restaurant operators, mill owners, BMC and state officials; and recommendations to avoid such incidents in future. The committee will submit its report to the HC within three months.

However, the court questioned, “Does the state keep a ready template for replying to court orders? Have you copy-pasted your reply.
