Mumbai: The Harbour line was shut from 4.45 pm to 5.10pm following a rail fracture near Tilak Nagar station, inconveniencing commuters just before the long Diwali weekend. The rail fracture led to the bunching of trains, one after the other, with no trains available at CST for almost half-an-hour. This led to crowds increasing at the platform as a result.

Commuters on the Harbour line like Ruhi Aaakanksha said, “The trains were not available at CST but I wanted to make it Andheri but decided to go to Churchgate instead.”

The fracture took place on the line towards CST, but trains towards Panvel were also affected due to the fact that there were no trains available at CST to send them back.

An official said, “Around 250 trains were delayed until late in the night and more than 20 services were cancelled.”
