Mumbai: The housing authority has so far received 3,750 applications for the 8 flats reserved for economically weaker sections, thus more than 450 applications per flat. According to the authority, this section always gives overwhelming response to the lottery every year. “Since the flats are cheaper, people can afford the rates, we always get good response from the economically weaker section. Last year there were 91,000 applications but the number of flats were considerably higher too,” said Bhagwan Sawant, Chief Officer (Marketing).

However, as of till Tuesday, the authority managed to get 1,200 applications for 338 flats reserved for High Income Group. The authority had faced flak from housing experts over flats priced close to Rs 2 crore were included in this category. Two flats at Lower Parel were priced at Rs 1.95 crore. Meanwhile, there are 3,700 applications from Middle Income Group (MIG) and 13,000 applications from Lower Income Group (LIG). Thus, 13 applications per flat for 281 flats are reserved for MIG and 67 applications per flat for 192 flats are reserved for LIG.
