BMC seeks Kirloskar’s help to control floods in Mumbai

Mumbai: Facing the flak for failing to prevent flooding in the city during monsoon, the Shiv Senaruled Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has sought help of Kirloskar Brothers Limited to find a solution of the chronic problem. The civic body has asked company to suggest methods to control floods in the city.

A meeting regarding flood controlling in Mumbai was held on Tuesday at Mayor’s bunglow at Dadar. It was attended by Sena chief Uddhav Thack-eray, guardian minister Subhash Desai, mayor Vishwanath Mahadesh-war and civic chief Ajoy Mehta. In the meeting, Sanjay Kirloskar, chairman of Kirloskar Broth-ers Ltd, made presentation with his technical experts suggesting methods to control floods.

Mr Thackeray urged Kirloskar Brothers Ltd to come up with concrete measurers to prevent flooding after studying the situation in Mumbai. Mr Desai stated that water clogging being a serious problem; the BMC should take permanent instead of temporary measures.

According to Sena sources, Kirloskar Broth-ers has successfully executed the flood control systems in various countries. In the year 2011, massive floods due to heavy rains hit the capital city of Thailand, Bangkok. The floods lasted for two to three mont-hs. In a bid to control the situation, the Thailand government entrusted the task to Kirloskar Brot-hers. The technical expe-rts in 2017 completed the work of establishing giant ‘Concrete Volute Pumps,’ to ensure that heavy rains doesn’t affect Bangkok.
