Mumbai: The Mumbai crime branch’s anti-narcotics cell (ANC) raided two bars in Kandivali late on Saturday night and rescued 39 women, including 14 minor girls. The owner of one of the bars was arrested by the police.

The police found that the owner of the bar was different from the name printed on the license. The police has arrested the owner of the bar, while the licensee is still on the run. The ANC officials has booked the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Juvenile Justice act for employing minor kids in a bar. In total 57 persons were caught at the spot, and the police seized cash worth Rs 49,540. The accused owner has been booked under relevant sections for the crime.

The ANC had raided two hotels in Kandivali’s Akurli Road on Saturday night, Nityanand Resto Bar and Lalit Restaurant and Bar. Over 30 customers, all men, were consuming liquor in the two bar when the raid took place.

After the raid, the police rescued 39 women, including 14 minors and 25 bar dancers, who were then sent to women’s care facility and the women above 18 years of age were let out with a warning.

Sunil Mane, a senior police inspector of ANC Kandivali unit, said, “The arrests have been made, and the role of the accused will be verified in the criminal act. The search for his accomplice is underway, and till then the names are kept under wraps.”
