MUMBAI: For the winter examinations to be conducted in October-November this year, the Mumbai University (MU) will introduce “customised” answer booklets for easier scanning in the on-screen marking (OSM) system. Furthermore, a mobile application (app) will be launched for university students to stay updated.

“There has been a series of complaints by assessors that there are errors while counting. To avoid that, the customised papers will help the system scan correctly and count automatically. This way, it will help assessors complete the work more easily,” said Dr Arjun Ghatule, director and controller of the board of examinations, MU.

About the mobile app, he said, “The app will be solely for students and MU staff. One would need a unique identity and password to login into the app. Through this app, the students can check their result dates, examination dates, exam time tables and other important and details.”

Furthermore, teachers will soon be able to assess answer papers remotely on their laptops or computers.

Till now, for the OSM assessment, teachers had to compulsorily visit CAP cluster centres located at colleges. With this upgrade, the MU will create a dashboard to the laptop of the teacher and keep track on them during assessment via a camera installed on the device. Students will be given access to “provisional mark sheets”.

“They can get a copy of their mark sheet through the website with the college and MU’s stamp attested,” said Dr Ghatule.
