Mumbai: The Mumbai crime branch on Monday filed a written reply opposing bail for the three accused doctors in the Dr Payal Tadvi death case, stating that the process of recording of the statements of eyewitnesses in the case was underway.

Meanwhile, special judge P.B. Jadhav deferred the hearing on the bail till June 19, after the prosecution sought time on the issue of video recording the court proceedings in the case.

On the issue of making arrangements for recording the proceedings, special public prosecutor Raja Thakre stated before the court that it is duty of the state government to make arrang-ements for the same. He said, “The director general of police (DGP, Subodh Jaiswal) has been brought into loop and he has already moved the state government for the same.”

On the other hand, advocate Abad Ponda on behalf of applicants — Dr Hema Ahuja, Dr Bhakti Mehare and Dr Ankita Khandelwal — pointed out to the judge that as per the law, video recording was required during the course of the trial and not during the hearing on bail. He requested the court to hear the arguments on bail pleas without waiting for video recording or grant the accused interim bail. After hearing these arguments, the judge posted the hearing on June 19.
