Mumbai: Shravan Tiwari, the Good Samaritan who was chided by police personnel after he helped in getting an injured person admitted to the hospital last week, will approach the Churchgate police to register an FIR against those officers who misbehaved with him.

Mr Tiwari said that he waited for a week for the police to initiate departmental action against the policemen, but since no action has been taken, an official FIR will be registered against them.

When asked about Mr Tiwari’s complaint, an officer from the Churchgate police station said that appropriate action would be taken against the errant officers when the complaint is made.

Last Saturday, Mr Tiwari was allegedly chided by several GRP officials for rushing the injured Ashish Sawant to a hospital on his own and not waiting for the police to come to the rescue.

Mr  Tiwari was on his way to Goregaon on Saturday night, when he spotted Sawant bleeding at the end of platform number 3 at Charni Road station, and rushed him to the nearest hospital. “A few officials told me that policemen get `3,000 for coming to the rescue of persons needing emergency medical help. They asked me why I had not let them do their job. I told them that it was more important for me to save his life by acting on time,” he said.

Mr Tiwari told this paper, “I am not going to stop the good work that I do for people. However, if the police personnel are going to stand in the way of a good deed, I will report them. I waited for a week for the police to take any action against the two GRP officials who allegedly scolded me for rushing Mr Sawant to the hospital after he was left unattended for more than 20 minutes last Saturday.”

Mr Sawant has now been shifted to the state run JJ Hospital as he was declared out of danger. Mr Tiwari narrated his ordeal on Facebook after which his post went viral, drawing over 4,700 reactions from its users, ranging from plaudist for him to dismay at the police’s conduct.
