CDR scam: Three cops likely to be arrested

Mumbai: The Thane crime branch police has found the names of three low ranking police officers, who were involved in the CDR scam. The investigation team is acquiring details about them and will arrest them soon.

On Friday, a Goregaon-based detective was arrested in the CDR scam case which is being investigated by the Thane crime branch. After arresting the detective, the investigation team has managed to find names of three police officials who are low ranking officers in the Maharashtra police force.

According to police sources, the investigating team was aware that some police officers were involved in the CDR scam and was searching phone numbers of the accused. The team had forwarded details of the suspected police officers to IT experts to get the details and have now finally received their information.  

The accused who were arrested on Friday had provided fifty such CDRs of a detective Kritesh Kavi to other detectives. Now, the police is checking his office premises to get more information about whom he had helped.

In CDR scam, Thane crime branch officers have already arrested the accused identified as Makesh Madhvan Pandiyan (42), Prashant Shripad Palekar (49), Jigar Vinod Makawana (35) and Samresh Nantun Jha alias Pratik Mohpal (32). The accused are residents of Thane district. Later, officers arrested Rajani Pandit, an Indian private investigator who is regarded as the first woman private investigator in Maharashtra and India.

A crime branch officer said, “As per law getting CDR details of any person without the consent of the person is illegal. The accused were in this business from past five years. They have duped more than 100 people by giving their privacy details. The victims are from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane.”
