Mumbai: A fake Twitter account created in the name of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar’s daughter, Sara, through which slanderous allegations were made against Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has raised political temperatures.

The NCP sought a probe into the issue even as Mr Tendulkar on Monday evening tweeted from his handle, @sachin_rt: “I reiterate the fact that my children Arjun & Sara are not on twitter. We request @Twitter to remove all such accounts (sic).”

“Impersonation wreaks havoc, creates misunderstanding & traumatises us. I appeal to the platform to take corrective measures immediately, ” he said in another tweet.

On Sunday evening, the account page of @SaraSachin_rt went viral on instant messaging service WhatsApp in the city and parts of Maharashtra.

One of its tweets reads, “Everyone knows that Sharad Pawar NCP looted Maharashtra state but little known that he tried centre too (sic).”

Angered by the allegations, several NCP workers tweeted to Mr Tendulkar on Monday morning seeking a clarification on the issue.

In response, Mr Tendulkar clarified that family had nothing to do with the account.

In the wake of the retired cricketer’s clarification, NCP leader Jitendra Awhad said that attempts to malign the image of his party’s leaders would not be allowed.

“We are quite sure that Ms Sara has not tweeted this. But as Mr Tendulkar himself clarified the matter, we will lodge a cyber complaint against these unknown trolls who are misleading the people. The police should take action against these paid trolls,” Mr Awhad said.
