Mumbai: Eight companies have shown interest for the civil work of Phase 1 of Metro corridor 2B i.e., the DN Nagar to Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). The short-listed company will be responsible for constructing viaducts connecting 11 stations between DN Nagar and BKC.

The civil work for the corridor may begin by the end of 2017 as against the deadline of 2021. Metro Line 2B from DN Nagar to Mandale, Mankhurd is a 23.64km-long elevated corridor with 22 stations in the stretch. The project’s estimated cost is around Rs 1,900 crore. However, the corridor still awaits AAI and railway clearance.

“We have received eight bids for the civil work of 2B corridor. The lowest bidder will be awarded the work after approval from Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (MMRDA) executive committee” said UPS Madan, additional metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA.

Among the eight companies who have shown interest are JMC Projects Ltd, Afcons Infrastructure, Larsen and Turbo, SEL-SPSCPL Joint Venture, CHEC-TPL Joint Venture, J Kumar Infrastructure, Simplex and Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services. These companies have submitted their technical and financial bids for the Phase one that costs around Rs 900 crore.

Initially, the MMRDA had floated tenders for the entire corridor between DN Nagar- Mandale. The bids were cancelled later after the bidders quoted higher than the estimated price. As against the project cost of Rs 1,900 crore, the bidder had quoted 2,293 crore for the civil work of the entire corridor. After this, the authority divided the project into two phases and floated tenders for a second time.
