Mumbai: A 19-year-old driving instructor on Monday lost control of his car and rammed into three school-going siblings aged 6 to 9 years, injuring them. Salman Haji Kutubuddin Khan, allegedly did not have the mandatory instructor’s license, was not carrying his driving license, and was illegally teaching driving to a 14-year-old who sat beside him when the accident occurred. Khan has arrested and booked by Mankhurd police for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and sections of the Motor Vehicles’ Act.

At around 7 am on Monday, on Service Road near Baban Hotel, Sathe Nagar, Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road, Khan, who was driving a Nissan Micra, rammed into three minor siblings. Police said that Khan inadvertently pressed the accelerator instead of the brakes when the three minors came in front of his car.

A police officer said, “The children were going to their school in Mankhurd BMC compound and were crossing the road when Khan, who was driving on the same road, could not control speed and pressed the accelerator instead of the brakes. The children were thrown into the air and fell down to the ground so badly that they have fractures in their legs and hands. Some passers-by took them to hospital.”

Two of the victims — Anasikha Ramdhani Yadav (7) and Mahima (6) sustained multiple fractures and have been admitted to a local hospital while their brother Ganesh (9) escaped with minor injuries. Police is looking out for the 14-year-old student who was being taught driving by Khan.

DCP Shahaji Umap said, “Khan’s medical examination has revealed he wasn’t drunk. However, he does not hav a valid license.”
