Mumbai: Ahead of the bhoomi pujan ceremony of the coastal road project, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray Sunday will visit the fishermen of Worli Koliwada who have opposed the project claiming it will affect their fishing activities.

According to MNS sources, Mr Thackeray will visit Worli Koliwada on December 16, and interact with the local fishermen to know their grievances.

According to officials of the Worli Koliwada Samaj Sanstha, the sea surrounding the Bandra-Worli Sea Link is rich in fish including prawns, pomfret and croaker (ghol). The coastal road project is likely to affect the catch of these fish.

The officials said that the filling carried out for the Sea-Link had already affected their fishing activities and that the coastal road project would sound the death knell of fishing.

The natural habitat for reproduction of these fish was also likely to be affected by the project.

They said that the BMC had not taken them into confidence about the project.

The officials said that they were not against the project but if it affected the livelihood of local fishermen, they would raise their voice against it.
