Mumbai: Sarah Rizvi, the daughter of film producer Anjum Rizvi of A Wednesday fame, has filed a domestic violence case against her husband in the additional chief metropolitan magistrate’s court in Bandra.

The complaint has been made on the grounds that the husband has failed to return the streedhan despite court directions for the same in a previous complaint that was lodged against the husband in 2013.

According to Sarah, she had been married to Shahzad Naqvi in 2008 and had a daughter with him in 2009.

“Soon after the marriage, Shahzad and his family started harassing me and started demanding favours from my father, who obliged. After the birth of my daughter, the harassment increased and he used to beat me up. In 2013, he kicked me out of the house at 3 am. That is when I filed a case under section 498A against him and his family members,” Sarah said while speaking to The Asian Age.

She also alleged that they used to harass her on the pretext that her father was a successful Bollywood film producer and should comply with her demands.

“Even after I left his house, he continued the mental harassment and used to call up and abuse me. Fed up of the harassment, I decided to approach the court and registered a case under section 12a of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act of 2005,” Sarah said of Mr Naqvi.

The film A Wednesday, jointly produced by Anjum Rizvi and Ronnie Screwvala, was released in 2008 and had received rave reviews.

Starring Jimmy Shergill, Deepal Shaw, Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah, the movie had been a hit and had won numerous awards. The film marked the debut of director Neeraj Pandey.

When contacted, Mr Naqvi refused to comment and said that a notice had been served only at the instance of his wife with a view to defame his name and that of his family members.
