Mumbai: A pall of gloom hangs over the state-run G.T. Hospital ever since news of the death of three nurses working in the hospital broke out. Three nurses Apurva Prabhu (35); Ranjana Tambe (40); and Bhakti Shinde (40) were on their way to work from Dombivali when they lost their lives in the bridge collapse Thursday.

Two of them, Prabhu and Shinde, were rushed to G.T. Hospital immediately after the accident. Their colleagues at the hospital broke down when doctors failed to revive both of them. Shinde breathed her last at St George’s Hospital. Prabhu’s husband, Abhay, said he had spoken to his wife after she boarded the train along with Tambe and another staff to join her night shift.

A condolence meeting was organised at Mumbai’s G.T. Hospital Friday, in memory of the three nurses who lost their lives in the tragic Mumbai bridge collapse. Prabhu and Tambe were both working as nurses at G.T. Hospital while Shinde was a nurse attached to the state-run St. George hospital.

More than 100 nurses, doctors, senior doctors and staff of the G.T. hospital gathered at the condolence meeting.

A nurse from this condolence meet said, “It’s so unfortunate and tragic; everyone here gathered for the meeting were seen with tears in their eyes. We are completely aghast and were filled with grief over the sudden death of our fellow staff.”

One of Shinde’s associates said, “She was the only breadwinner of her family. She had lost both her brothers who were also younger to her, and she was taking care of their families too.”
