22-year-old dies during tug-of-war game

Mumbai: A 22-year-old lost his life in a tragic incident on Friday afternoon, while playing tug-of-war with his friends at Somaiya College ground.

The incident happened in Mumbai’s privately-run K. J. Somaiya college of nursing in Vidyavihar. The students were playing tug-of-war as yearly sports activity when Jibbin Sunny (22) collapsed on the ground and became unconscious. He was the first person in his group who pulled the rope.

He was rushed to the Rajawadi hospital in Ghatkopar where he was declared brought dead. The body of the youth has been sent for post-mortem. Jibbin was a nursing student in Somaiya college.

Dr Vidya Thakur, medical superintendent of Rajawadi Hospital, said, “In the afternoon, the young boy from Somaiya college was brought to our hospital. But, after the complete medical examination, the doctors pronounced him dead. The exact cause of death is still unclear. We have sent the body for the post-mortem. Once we get the reports we can comment on the cause of death.”

The Somaiya college has refuse to divulge further information on the incident.
