MUMBAI: Failure of an empty electrical engine at Ambivli station on the down line blocked the path of four suburban services Tuesday morning. The incident took place at 6.05 am while services were restored by 7.03 am. During this time, two of the four services scheduled to begin from Titwala station were cancelled although railway authorities did not confirm exactly how many services were affected.

A CR official said that the engine failed due to technical reasons at Ambivli station at 6.05 am, blocking the path of four trains, including the Kurla-Titwala train. “As the trains did not reach Titwala station in the morning, up services were hampered. Hence, we decided to stop the Mumbai-Nagpur Duranto express at all stations so that the crowd could be reduced between Titwala and Kalyan stations,” he said. Services were delayed by 15 to 20 minutes throughout the day but commuters said that services were delayed by 30 to 45 minutes.

Ziya Shaikh (30), who boarded a CSMT bound train from Mumbra said that the trains were more than half-an-hour late and there was no announcement when the train would arrive at Mumbra.
