Man killed over Rs 2,500 deposit in Goregaon

Mumbai: A 30-year-old man was killed following a scuffle over Rs 2,500 at Santosh Nagar in Goregaon (east). The incident took place around 9 pm on Monday, when the deceased Saawan Sakriya Kharwa denied returning the deposit amount to the accused.

The accused Mukesh Jugabhai Dantani (30) and Radha Mukesh Dantani (28) had rented Kharwa’s room on the upper deck with a rent of Rs 1,800 four months ago, without the owner’s consent.

When the owner learnt about this development, he asked the deceased Kharwa to vacate the house. Kharwa asked the accused Mukesh to vacate the house as his own accommodation was in question.

When the deceased broke this news to him, they got into a brawl. Mukesh allegedly banged the deceased’s head on the ironclad door, resulting in Saawan Kharwa’s death.

An official from the Dindoshi police stattion said that the couple’s two children were present when the incident took place. The wife of the deceased, Bhavna Kharwa (25), who sold scrap for a living, with her husband, lodged an FIR at the Dindoshi police station.
