Mumbai: The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena on Wednesday hit out at the BJP for grandstanding about principles, ethics and culture.

The Sena, in an editorial in its mouthpiece Saamana, said said those who talk of ethics in politics are currently the “most disruptive”.

“If a party with 105 MLAs could not form government, others would struggle for sure. But it does not mean the largest party should rejoice. This attitude of deriving sadistic pleasure has pushed Maharashtra into today's situation,” the Sena claimed.

The BJP was said to be a party of principles, morals and culture however it did not follow principles and sanskar in Maharashtra, the Sena said.

“The mandate was for the BJP and Shiv Sena. Had the BJP kept its promise, we would have not searched for an alternative. The BJP talks of being a party of principles, morality and civility, then it should have followed it after the Assembly elections. This is not tactics but a conspiracy to humiliate the Shiv Sena,” the editorial said.

“What happened when you (the BJP) supported Nitish Kumar in Bihar, defying the mandate given to Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad Yadav?” it questioned.

The editorial alleged that though horse-trading had not started in state thus far, things were moving in that direction and President’s rule was an example of the same. It said that if they could not, nobody else should form the government as that was arrogance and not in the interest of the state.

“The people of Maharashtra know the reality, so we have faithfully taken some steps. The Sena staked a claim on forming the government. The requisite papers of support could not reach on time,” the editorial stated.

The citizens of Maharashtra were witnessing a game where the government was not being allowed to be formed under any circumstances, the Sena noted.
