BMC to discuss revised draft DP
After granting three extensions to the DP till date, the town planning and valuation department refused to give another deadline.

Mumbai: The Revised Draft Development Plan (RDDP) of the city for the next 20 years will finally be discussed in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) House from July 14 and 15.
With the state government refusing to grant further extension, the civic body has to approve and submit the DP to the state urban development (UD) department before July 18.
After granting three extensions to the DP till date, the town planning and valuation department refused to give another deadline. In a notice sent BMC on May 31, it said that no further extensions would be granted and the draft DP 2034 will have to be approved by July 18.
Accordingly the discussion on DP has been kept on Friday and Saturday. However, corporators are expressed discontent over insufficient time allotted to them to discuss the DP. Opposition leader Ravi Raja from Congress said, “Two days are not at all sufficient to discuss the vast issues of a big city like Mumbai. But the state government has deliberately refused to give extension due to pressure from a builder’s lobby as it wants DP should be approved fast. However we will oppose the commercial exploitation of open spaces proposed in the DP.”
Leader of the House and Shiv Sena leader Yashwant Jadhav said that the civic House would approve the DP and send it to the state government for final approval within two days.
The draft DP 2034 as well as the planning committee’s report, which had included all the suggestions and objections, was submitted to previous mayor Snehal Ambekar on March 6 this year. After getting BMC’s approval on July 18, the draft DP 2034 and the planning committee’s report along with the suggestions and objections submitted by the corporators will be sent to the state government for final approval before it can be implemented.
