Mumbai: Three people were injured after the fire erupted in godowns in Mankhurd. Three injured were taken to the local hospitals where they received treatment.

The houses in the transit camp, which are close to the godowns, were worst affected. After the fire erupted, the labourers rescued their family members and also tried to get hold of all their valuables. Out of the three injured, Raju Yadav (30), who sustained 10 per cent burn injuries was discharged from Shatabdi Hospital after receiving treatment.

While Aju Pal (40) is receiving treatment at Rajawadi Hospital, the third injured, Deedar Chaudhri (47), who sustained 30 percent burn injuries, has been admitted to Habib Hospital. According to the locals, the fire keeps on repeatedly erupting, despite measures taken to douse it. The locals also claimed that the godowns, where the fire erupted have been illegally built.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had allotted the land in 2000 to the locals of Sonapur, who were rehabilitated in Mandala area of Mankhurd. Muktabai Chavan (40), a local of Mankhurd told The Asian Age, “We have been living in here for 17 years now, and fire takes place every year. We have approached the local corporator to find a solution for this problem. We hope that they are able to find a solution as our lives at risk.”

The moment the fire broke out, the fire officials and police rushed to the spot. After bringing the fire under control, the police and fire officials have launched a probe.
