Rebel Karnataka MLAs back in Mumbai

Mumbai: The rebel Karnataka MLAs, who flew to Bengaluru to submit their resignations to the speaker, returned to Mumbai Thursday night. They are now back at the Renaissance Hotel in Powai. The four rebels — Byrathi Basavraj, S.T. Somashekar, Shivaram Hebbar and B.C. Patil — visited the Siddhivinayak temple in the city Friday morning. Outside the temple, Mr Patil said that their decision was final and that they would abide by the Supreme Court order.

The rebel legislators of the Congress-JD(S) coalition will be staying for another two days. They have been camping in the city since last Saturday after resigning and withdrawing support to the 13-month-old JD(S)-Congress government in Karnataka, bringing it to collapse, almost.

After the intervention of the Supreme Court Thursday, the high-voltage political drama in Karnataka came to an end. However, the drama has been going on in Mumbai for the last five days. Following the apex court’s directives to the dissident legislators, who have been put up in Mumbai, to meet the Karnataka Assembly speaker by 6 pm, they flew back to Bengaluru by taking specialflights to the Karnataka capital.
