Mumbai: Aimed at making available online the writings of Maharashtra’s legends, the state government will soon launch a website carrying the writings of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, Mahatma Phule, Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj and literary persona Lok Shaheer Annabhau Sathe as well as the life and times of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaikwad.

A brief history and writings of these legendary figures will be compiled on a single website with the help of the department of higher and technical education. The government has set up five different committees for publication of material written by Dr Ambedkar, Mahatma Phule, Shahu Maharaj, Annabhau Sathe and Sayajirao Gaikwad. The committees will work on each personality individually. They will compile their writings, writings on them by leaders and critics; and photographs and rare material to upload on the website.

An official from the higher and technical department said, “Maharashtra has a legacy of great national heroes in all sectors i.e. social, politics, literature, art and culture. The government has initially chosen five including Dr Ambedkar, Mahatma Phule, Shahu Maharaj, Annabhau Sathe and Sayajirao Gaikwad. Digitisation of their literature and writings will help understand their thoughts and also propagate ideas initiated by them. The literature will be accessed by public across the world. This will also help in preserving their work. The material can become a source of reading for all universities and colleges and government libraries.”
