Mumbai: The Bombay high court has lifted the stay on issuance of occupation and commencement certificates (OC and CC) at Ghodbunder road in Thane District and also for projects at Balewadi in Pune. The stay was imposed on new constructions after petitioners complained that there was no drinking water being provided in existing societies by concerned civic corporations. The court constituted a committee comprising the municipal commissioner, water department officials and urban development and revenue department officials for redressal of housing societies’ issues.

A division bench of chief justice Dr Manjula Chellur and justice N.M. Jamdar had earlier heard two public interest litigations seeking directions to Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to provide potable water to areas along Ghodbunder Road, Balewadi and Baner as residents of these areas were being forced to buy tanker water.

“If this restriction continues, people who have purchased flats in these areas will face difficulty. Therefore, we permit the two local authorities (Thane Municipal Corporation and Pune Municipal Corporation) to go ahead with issuance of OC and CC,” said the bench.
