Fractures caused Joseph’s death: Report

Mumbai: The post-mortem report of Karan Joseph (29), the pianist who jumped to his death from his friend’s 12th floor flat in Bandra on Saturday morning, indicates that he died because of the multiple fractures he had suffered due to the fall. The police is in the process of questioning his friends, especially the ones he had allegedly sent out messages to, seeking help hours before taking the drastic step. Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered against unknown persons for abetment of suicide under section 306 of the Indian Penal Code.

One of Joseph’s friends in Mumbai, who did not wish to be named, said that Joseph was a Bengaluru resident, who used to travel to Mumbai at least once a month for his music gigs. He said that the deceased like the city and when one of his friends offered him to stay with him for a few days till he lands a place of his own, Joseph has moved to Mumbai.

The friend further said that Joseph was acting very weirdly lately and had even contacted his mother to confide in her that he had made a mistake by moving to Mumbai. Joseph’s friends and family members continue to claim that he was not under depression.

Pandit Nivrutti Thackeray, senior police inspector, Bandra police station said, “The post mortem had confirmed the death due to multiple fractures from the fall. The deceased’s mobile phone has been sent for examination and might further shed some light on what caused him to jump that day.”

When asked about Joseph’s location in the wee hours of Saturday morning, Mr Thackeray added, “According to his friends, he had gone to a party and so we are on the lookout for his the friends he had met at that party to know if anything untoward happened there, triggering his action.”

According to a police source, some of Joseph’s friends are under the scanner for being bad influence and allegedly consuming drugs on a daily basis, to see if Joseph was being pressurised for anything of that sort.
