Malegaon blast accused wants security protection
Sameer Kulkarni has not mentioned any specific threat to him in his letter to the chief minister.
Mumbai: Malegaon bomb blast accused Sameer Kulkarni has written a letter to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, seeking protection.
Kulkarni was granted bail by the special NIA court and has been out of jail since two years.
In his letter, he has expressed apprehension that as he is an accused in such a sensitive case, there is a threat to his life.
Kulkarni has not mentioned any specific threat to him in his letter to the chief minister.
Kulkarni, a printing press employee from Bhopal, was arrested soon after the blast. In April 2017, a special NIA court in Mumbai granted bail to Kulkarni, who was arrested for his alleged involvement in the September 2008 Malegaon blast case. Kulkarni was booked for supplying chemicals for the blast.
The court granted Kulkarni bail on a bond of Rs 50,000 on grounds of parity, as several other accused in the case, including Lt Col Prasad Purohit, Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, and retired Army major Ramesh Upadhyay, were also given bail.
In the Malegaon case, Kulkarni challenged the decision of the special NIA court, permitting the probe agency to bring on record photocopies of missing statements of witnesses and confessions of the accused, and lead evidence in its support.
In January 2017, the special NIA court permitted the use of photocopies after the probe agency submitted that some files containing original witness statements and confessions of the accused under the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) section 164 had gone missing and could not be traced.
