Mumbai: Two men in an Innova allegedly stabbed a Bandra Worli Sealink project manager around 5.30 pm on Sunday after a scuffle had ensued between the two parties over the payment of toll.

The project manager — Prabhakar Aatmaram Bhalekar — who was stationed at the Bandra end of the sealink had been collecting the toll from vehicles, when the four-wheeler rolled up. The accused, aged 25 and 22 years, however refused to pay the toll, which led to a verbal spat.

The accused then stabbed Mr Bhalekar in the chest, threw aside the weapon and tried flee — but were nabbed by police officers, who were stationed nearby, in the nick of time.

Mr Bhalekar was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, and the two men were arrested on the spot. Pandit Nivrutti Thackeray, senior police inspector of Bandra police station, said, “The accused have been arrested and we have the closed-circuit television footage to prove it in a court of law. Action will be taken.”

The accused have been booked under sections 326, 323, 504 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertain to voluntarily causing hurt and grievous hurt, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace and common intention.
