Mumbai: A 20-year-old college student who had alleged that she was raped in a moving car on Thursday has allegedly confessed that she had cooked up the story to take revenge from her friends who had insulted her and her mother.

When the police checked the CCTV footage of the spot from where she claimed to have been kidnapped, they found that the story narrated by her did not match the evidence. She was then compelled to confess. The Asian Age had on July 8 reported that her version of being abducted by the vehicle-borne men had not matched the CCTV footage collected by the police.

The officials attached to the Charkop police said that the girl had claimed that she was first kidnapped by three men and then raped by one of them in a moving car on Thursday morning while she was on her way to college.

The allegations further included that her hands had been tied and she was thrown out of the car near Aksa Beach in Malad after going through the horrendous ordeal. But when the police officials checked the CCTV footages to verify the allegations, they found that she was not picked from the spot as per her claim. As they checked the CCTV footages from various spots that came on the route the kidnappers had allegedly taken, her claims came apart, word-by-word.

When the police finally saw her loitering near the Marve beach despite her claim of being thrown at Aksa beach, the police confronted her. She later confessed that this was all a part of her plan to harass her friends who had used derogatory terms for her and her mother.

Mumbai police spokesperson DCP (Opertions) Rashmi Karandikar told The Asian Age, “The police found no substantial evidence matching her story and hence confronted her with strong proofs, after which she confessed. The girl was then allowed to go with a warning and no action was taken against her.”

The police had also detained a few of her friends for questioning. Their interrogation revealed that the girl had a grudge against a few people in the college and that she used to stay alone for the most time. These statements helped the police officials in getting the story straight.
