Developer to be summoned in betting scam

Mumbai: The Thane crime branch is likely to summon a Mumbai-based property developer Amit Jalan for questioning in connection with the cricket betting case, after the officials came across monetary transaction between him and arrested bookie Sonu Jalan.

The antecedents of money in the developer’s project are under scanner. The Thane anti-extortion cell (AEC) further stated that, Bollywood producer Parag Sanghvi might also be made a witness like actor Arbaaz Khan in the case. The officials meanwhile took custody of Sonu Jalan in connection with a betting case registered by Kasarvadavali police station in 2017. The case pertains to betting on India-Australia match. He has been remanded to custody till Wednesday for questioning. Sonu Jalan has now been booked in three betting cases altogether.

“The property developer will also be questioned to find if any of the betting money was used in the construction projects. Summons will be sent soon,” said an officer of Thane crime branch.  

At least 20 names of those who collect money from bookies have come up during Sonu Jalan’s questioning.
