Mumbai: A day after an unidentified foreign national plunged to his death from the corridor of Maker Chambers in south Mumbai, the Cuffe Parade police has circulated his photograph along with description to all consulates in the city in a bid to identify him. The officials have also communicated with the Romanian embassy, seeking details about the deceased, including why he was desperately seeking their assistance. However there is no confirmation yet that he was a Romanian national.

The police said that the deceased travelled from Goa to Mumbai by bus the same day for unknown reasons. The police also approached the travel agency but the latter informed the investigators that it had no details on the deceased. Manoj Kumar Sharma, deputy commissioner of police, zone I, said, “We are yet to identify the deceased or his nationality. There is no confirmation if he was a Romanian. Details are being sought from the embassy and other concerned authorities.”

Preliminary investigation has revealed that he arrived at Maker Chambers, desperately looking to meet the Romanian embassy officials. However, the embassy had shifted from there a couple of years ago, officials said. When he found out about the change of address, he went into the corridor and flung himself down.

The police has registered an accidental death report in connection with the incident as there are eye-witnesses to corroborate that there was no foul play. The police has sent his body for a post-mortem and is now looking for more clues.
