Mumbai: Congress demands CBI inquiry into the incident of campaign material found at United Phosphorus office at Khar. It is a blatant case of code of conduct violation as the campaign material found in Khar’s office had pictures of armed forces and the company belongs to Pradeep Goyal, the brother of the BJP minister Piyush Goyal, said Congress.

The Election Commission’s flying squad and the Maharashtra Congress on Wednesday had jointly raided registered office premises of UPL where it was fo-und that electronic propaganda material for BJP was being manufactured without EC’s permission.

Following this, the EC has lodged a police complaint in the matter with Khar police, which has taken cognisance and launched further investigations.

The flying squad also found pictures of defence aircraft, Army, Air Force, surgical strikes and recorded clips of voice messages of Prime Minister Naren-dra Modi’s speeches appealing people to vote for the BJP.

“This is a blatant case of model code of conduct violation as the EC has already made it clear that the armed forces cannot be used for election purposes. The BJP is engaged in making lakhs of these electronic pamphlets for distribution without the EC clearance,” said Sachin Sawant, Congress spokesperson.

Reacting on this, Piyush Goyal admitted that his brother Pradeep is one of the directors of UPL. “But he is an independent director, who does not have day to day role in company’s functioning. Moreover, people now no more believe in the allegations made by Congress.”
