Mumbai: The penguin enclosure at Byculla zoo has become a big attraction in Mumbai since it’s inception. The Byculla zoo authorities claimed that the number of visitors have doubled. The weekend rush has doubled, and according to the zoo authorities, as the number of visitors has jumped to twenty thousand. The authorities also confirmed that twenty thousand people visited the zoo on last weekend.

Sanjay Tripathi, Director, Byculla Zoo said, “In order to efficiently manage the crowd, we now have separate exit and entry points. This helps us in managing the crowd without any issue. Moreover, security staff of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is looking after smooth movements of visitors.”

Though the entry fees for viewing the penguins has continued to be the same (Rs 2 for kids and Rs 5 for adults), the BMC is all set to increase the entry fee to Rs 100 (for adults). However, the entry would be free for students of municipal schools. But, the entry fee for private school children would be Rs 25. Additionally, for adults, it would be Rs 100. The senior citizens would also be given a free entry.

After the first meeting, the BMC had said the adults would get free entry if children are accompanying them. Moreover, two children accompanying their parents would also be given a free entry. It is basically to provide free entry to more children since penguins are popular among them. According to sources, by the month end new fee structure would be introduced.
