Mumbai: A day after conducting arrests in connection with murder of the Ghatkopar-based diamond trader, the police questioned several bar girls one of whom allegedly was in the car in which the murder was executed.

The body of Rajeshwar Udani (57) was found dumped in the green patch in Panvel early December almost a month after he was reported missing.

The Pant Nagar police said that they are on lookout for at least two bar girls who are suspected to have known about the murder bid. Sachin Pawar, former personal assistant of a Bharatiya Janata Party leader, strangulated the trader to death inside the car after he suspected that the trader was wooing his female friend. The police also arrested Dinesh Pawar, a suspended constable of Mumbai police.

The duo was produced in holiday court on Sunday and was sent to police custody till December 14 for further investigation.

The Pant Nagar police questioned Sachin’s female friend who is a television actress Devoleena Bhattac-harjee. She was allowed to leave after questioning.

The police have questioned several persons in connection with the case and formed several teams to track down more accomplices in the murder.

“Based on the preliminary questioning, we have summoned several persons for questioning,” said Lakhmi Gautam, additional commissioner of police (east region).

While the trader was de-manding return of around Rs 3 lakh that Sachin had borrowed from him, Sach-in was fuming over Udani’s alleged attempts to get close to his female friend. The officials said that Sachin then sought help from Dinesh, who runs a gymnasium, to kill Udani.

A case has been registe-red against Sachin, Dinesh and others for kidnapping, murder, criminal conspiracy and acts of common intention as per the Indian Penal Code provisions.
