Mumbai: Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming movie Zero has stirred up controversy before its release as one of the posters and trailers of his film allegedly depicts the actor holding a kirpan, the holy Sikh dagger, which has hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikh community. A lawyer, Amritpal Singh Khalsa, has filed petition against the movie in the high court, seeking to remove objectionable scenes of the movie. Mumbai Congress president Charanjeet Sapra had written a letter to the Mumbai police and had registered a complaint against the movie. According to the police complaint, the actor has insulted the community and its religious beliefs.

The petitioner has demanded that the objectionable scene must be removed from the movie and sought action against producers Gauri Khan and Karuna Badwal, director Aanand L. Rai, Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt Ltd and the Central Board for Film Certification chairperson and CEO.

In his petition, Mr Khalsa said a kirpan is worn after taking the ‘rehat maryada’ (conversion to Sikhism). The plea has sought a direction to the police to initiate action against Shah Rukh and others under IPC section 295 (A), pertaining to deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings.
