Mumbai: Clueless over how to use the octroi naka land, which has been lying vacant after the abolition of octroi system, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has now sought assistance from city planners and architects for its proposed development.

The civic body has issued a request for proposal (RFP), asking reputed and experienced city planners and planning institutes to bid for the project. According to RFP conditions, the city planners or institutes should have experience of doing a planning for at least one city of minimum 10 acres or more land.

A request for proposal (RFP) is a document that solicits proposal, made through a bidding process, by an agency or company interested in procurement of a commodity, service, or valuable asset, to potential suppliers to submit business proposals.

The pre-bidding meeting for the project will be held on November 16 in the office of director (engineering services and projects).

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has five octroi nakas in the city – Eastern Express Highway (Mulund), LBS Marg (Mulund), Western Expre-ss Highway (Dahisar), Mumbai-Panvel Highway (Vashi) and Mulund-Airoli Link Road (Airoli).

The octroi was the biggest source of revenue for the BMC. “For the development of octroi naka land, the city planners or institutes are expected to file the bids by studying the new Development Plan (DP) rules. In addition to this, more study is needed about the development of land at Airoli and Vashi, as it falls in coastal regulation zone (CRZ-1) category,” said a senior civic official.
