Mumbai: The Thane (rural) police is on the lookout for two unidentified men who hired a cab from Kashimira to Taloja near Navi Mumbai, threatened the driver at gunpoint, and robbed him of his cash and mobile phone before fleeing with the car. Following a complaint registered by the cab driver identified as Nasir Ahmed (31), a case under section 392 of the IPC was registered against the unidentified miscreants at the Kashimira police station on Monday evening.

Two men in an inebriated state hired the cab, a Renault Lodgy car, from Kashimira to Taloja. While one of them boarded the cab, the other followed on a bike.

In his statement to the police, Ahmed said that after crossing the toll plaza, the biker drove ahead and parked his bike before getting into the car. As the car neared Taloja village, the duo said to be in their mid thirties, threatened Ahmed with a revolver and snatched his mobile phone and wallet containing Rs 2,800 before pushing him out and driving away with the vehicle in the direction of Panvel.

After running from pillar to post to file a police complaint, the traumatised driver finally managed to get a FIR registered at the Kashimira police station. “Investigation into the case is underway and we will crack it soon,” said a senior police inspector..
