Mumbai: A security alert has been issued for south India after two abandoned boats were found in the Sir Creek off Gujarat, said Lieutenant General S.K. Saini, chief of Army’s southern command, in Pune. The officials said that the alert was issued after intelligence was received on possibility of attacks in south and peninsular region of the country.

The revelation came during an event of the armed forces, at the Army Law College at Kanhe in Pune. The army stated that requisite steps had been undertaken for ‘capacity building and capability development’ in a bid to secure the Sir Creek region. The threat perception showed an enhancement and in the backdrop of Pakistan’s increased presence along the Sir Creek.

“All precautionary measures are being taken to curb any kind of terror activity,” said Lt Gen Saini while attending the commencement of Phase II of infrastructure development at the Army Law College.

Mr Saini also stated that there were several dimensions to the threats emerging from the Pakistan. “In the case of J&K, the external dimension is much more pronounced than the internal dimension. We have a very clear-cut policy based on which have been resolving insurgencies. The government takes a comprehensive view of every conflict and undertakes political, economic, social and diplomatic measures to resolve it,” added Mr Saini.

The army is fully equipped and geared to tackle any contingencies that could emerge. When asked about the political and military leadership of Pakistan and their latest statements, Mr Saini said, “Threats do not change the functioning of the army and we are ready to fight any eventuality.”
