Metro-6 works delays crocodile park in Powai lake
Civic body to keep on hold the tenders to develop a basking area for the reptiles.
Mumbai: Mumbaikars will have to wait a little longer for the proposed crocodile park in Powai lake as the project has been affected by Metro-6 works.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to keep on hold the tenders to develop a basking area for crocodiles in the lake due to the Metro work.
According to civic officials, the BMC has undertaken the Powai lake conservation project, under which tenders have been issued by the water supply and sewage
projects departments to install the aeration and monitoring system for water quality improvement and to divert the sewage water from the lake respectively.
“In the meeting held on the development of a separate park for the crocodiles, it was decided that a basking area for crocodiles should be developed instead of a park. However, these works are likely to be affected by Mumbai Metro-6 works. Hence, their tenders have been kept on hold,” said a senior civic official.
Line 6 of the Mumbai Metro is also referred to as the Lokhandwala-Jogeshwari-Vikhroli-Kanjurmarg corridor. This line is fully elevated.
To reduce water pollution, the BMC has also decided to set up a sewage pumping station, which will prevent the entry of sewage water into the lake and divert it into a nearby sewage main.
