Mumbai: As on Thursday morning, 31 substations and 5,982 distribution transformers of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) were under water in Sangli and Kolhapur districts of the state. The MSEDCL is now waiting for the water to recede to check the condition of the transformers, even as it has decided to repair all damaged electric meters free-of-cost.

An officer, on the condition of anonymity, said, “If the transformers become non-functional, it will then take a lot of time to replace them.”

Due to heavy rain, excess water from the Almatti, Koyna and Radhanagari dams was released, causing floods and loss of life and property in Sangli and Kolhapur. As a precautionary measure, the  MSEDCL decided to disconnect power supply to avoid accidents. As a result, 11,12,000 consumers in Kolhapur and 8,60,000 consumers in Sangli were left without electricity.

However, the MSEDCL managed to supply electricity to 1,646,000 consumers in both districts.

More than 5,000 MSEDCL staff, including engineers and workers, have been working on field to secure power supply in both districts.

Meanwhile, MSEDCL has also issued two helpline numbers for power-related complaints.
