Mumbai: The Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Thursday blamed the ruling BJP government for the deluge in Maharashtra. Speaking to reporters in Shirdi, senior NCP leader and former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar said that the government's mismanagement was responsible for the current situation. Owing to incessant rains, Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara districts have been badly affected. Mr Pawar said that many people were stuck in the floods, with one lakh persons having been rescued from Sangli district alone. He said that the BJP is in power not only in Karnataka and Maharashtra but also at the Centre, but failed to take a decision on discharging water  from the Almatti dam. The Almatti dam is four times bigger than Maharashtra’s Koyna dam. The lack of discharge of excess water from the dam was blamed for the floods. The former deputy chief minister also alleged that the Karnataka government did not inform before discharging water from the dam. “Despite the deluge in Maharashtra, the chief minister is busy with his 'Maha Janadesh Yatra'. He must cancel the progamme immediately, Mr Pawar said.
