Judges remind govt its duty to provide land for more courts

Mumbai: The Bombay high court in its judgment recently said that it is the constitutional duty of the state to provide land or premises to established adequate number of courts in the state.

The court also said that it is the obligation state to provide sufficient judicial officers and infrastructure in the courts and tribunal.

The court also said that speedy disposal of the cases would not be possible if adequate infrastructure and staff is not provided. The court added that financial constraints are no ground to deny permission for establishing new courts and denying essential infrastructure to all the courts.

A division bench of Justice Abhay Oka and Justice A.A.Syed was hearing a bunch of petitions filed regarding the lack of courts and infrastructure like toilets, water cooler, and benches for the public in the existing courts.

The court in its judgement has given various directions to the state government.
