Bombay HC disposes of suit after RGV assures credit to Sarkar 3 writer

Mumbai: The Bombay high court on Monday disposed of a civil suit filed by writer Nilesh Girkar after filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma’s lawyer assured the court that they would give credit to Girkar as storywriter of Sarkar 3.

Mr Girkar had dragged Verma to court saying the movie is based on a story written by him but no credit was being given to him. Advocate Rahul Ajatshatru on behalf of Mr Girkar argued before Justice Gautam Patel that in July 2012 he had submitted his story to Verma and even explained it in detail in 2013.

According to the suit, Verma made upcoming movie Sarkar 3 on his story but refused to give him any credit in the film. Mr Girkar filed the suit in 2017 since the movie is expected to release on Friday.

On Monday, Verma’s lawyer informed the HC that they have settled the dispute and are ready to give credit to Mr Girkar.

Justice Patel directed Verma that Mr Girkar’s name should appear in the opening credits with same prominence as given to others. The HC accepted the respondent’s contention that they would not be able to incorporate Mr Girkar’s name in digital prints as they had already been dispatched for international theatrical release.

The judge however, made it clear that Mr Girkar’s name should appear in all prints —international satellite, cable, digital platforms for domestic releases whether theatrical or on any platform.
