Mumbai: In a shocking case of blatant disregard to the nation’s security forces, an army personnel and his two friends were mercilessly thrashed by over two dozen hotel staffers in Mira Road following a petty tiff over inflated bill.

While an FIR has been registered against the yet-to-be identified assail-ants, no arrests have been made so far. According to the police, the incident took place at Hotel Park View.

Identified as — Prashant Waghmare, the army personnel is deployed along the Punjab border and had married just a fortnight ago. To celebra-te the occasion, Mr Waghmare along with his two friends had visited the hotel for a food and drink session on Monday night.

However, a war of words over the issue of adding abnormally high GST on their bill took a violent turn after the hotel staffers including the manager, waiters and security guards launched a violent attack on the trio.

Thanks to the timely arrival of the local police, the trio were rescued from the clutches of the assa-ilants. “CCTV footage’s are being scanned to identify the assailants. Arrests will be made soon,” confirmed Vasant Labdhe, senior police inspector.

The complainants have stated that despite Mr Waghmare revealing his identity and even agreeing to pay the extra money, the hotel manager did not relent and continued hurling abuses in the name of security forces.

In his statement to the police the complainant has alleged that apart from attacking us with beer bottles, blades and bamboo sticks, the most disturbing thing is that the manager was hurling choicest of abuses to our defence forces.

When contacted deputy SP- Shantaram Valvi said, “It’s a serious issue and I am personally monitoring the case, those found guilty will be bought to book.” The hotel staffers however refused to comment on the issue. A case under sections of the 143, 147, 149, 323, 504 and 506 of the IPC has been registered in this context.

In another incident, three motorcyclists were arrested for assaulting an army officer, a Kirti Chakra awardee, at Malad (West) early on Sundday over an argument about riding on the footpath. All three accused have been released on a bail amount of `50,000 each by a magistrate court.

The officer, Lieutenant Colonel Anup Manjali, suffered a shoulder dislocation in the scuffle. Manjali is attached to the 12 Bihar regiment.
