ACP, fianc©e booked for abetment

The deceased, the ACP and Fapale are attached with the Thane City Police headquarters, officials said.

Mumbai: A day after a 21-year-old woman constable Sasrika Pawar hung herself to death, the Thane City police has booked an assistant commissioner of police (ACP) and her fiancé police constable for abetting the suicide on the basis of the complaint filed against them by the deceased’s brother. Pawar was allegedly under duress as ACP Shyamkumar Nipunge was calling her continuously for reasons that are yet to be ascertained by the police. Her fiancée, constable Amol Fapale, was allegedly present at Pawar’s Kalwa residence when she hung herself following a quarrel between them after she had received several calls from Nipunge asking her to report to work.

The deceased, the ACP and Fapale are attached with the Thane City Police headquarters, officials said. Preliminary probe in the case has revealed that Pawar was with Fapale when Nipunge kept phone calling her. She was distressed due to too many calls from him and told Fapale about it and the couple had a fight following which he went out to make phone call. Meanwhile, a stressed Pawar, hung her and Fapale was the first person to see her.

The incident was reported to the police, who registered an accidental death report. The Kalwa police then recorded statement of Pawar’s brother and based on the statement Nipunge and Fapale have been booked.

“We have registered a case based on the statement and every angle is being probed. The process of recording statements of the accused persons is also underway,” said Sukhada Narkar, Thane City police spokeswomen.

The officials said that technical evidence is also being gathered and call detail records of all the three persons have been sought. The police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against them but they have not been detained yet.

Further action will be initiated following a detailed inquiry on the allegations, officials said.
